January 2015 Monthly Crime Report

Welcome to the Arlington Crime Maps monthly report for January 2015. These reports attempt to provide additional insight through aggregation of the Daily crime report.

First we’ll start with a map of all crime as reported by Arlington PD’s daily crime report for the month of January, 2015. Next we’ll dig into a numerical overview of January 2015 in the context of the last 3 months. Then we’re going to look at the most frequent crimes and the neighborhoods with the most reported crime, and how those totals compare to previous months.

January 2015 Crime Map

First lets look at a point map of all reported crime in Arlington Count for January 2015. Red dots are personal crime (rape, robbery, assult, etc) while blue dots are property crimes (larceny, burglary, stolen vehicles, etc).

The Arlington County Police Department reported 359 crimes for the month of January 2015, up 39% from December 2014.

The November 2014 totals look to be under reported so take the month-over-month change between November and December 2014 with a grain of salt.

Please note: I’m using the neighborhood names designated by Arlington County which, is not always in line with that a place is regularly referred to by residents. Arlington County calls Aurora Highlands ( map here ) could easily be called Crystal City or Pentagon City.
